My Fair Lady
23-28 November, The Oxford Playhouse
“I could even pass her off as a Duchess at the Embassy Ball”….. and so begins the story of My Fair Lady. On a chance meeting under the arches of Covent Garden, Professor of phonetics and confirmed bachelor, Henry Higgins, bets that he can transform feisty cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into a high society lady at the forthcoming Embassy Ball. When Higgins’ brash and superior attitude clashes with Eliza’s stubbornness, it seems that the bet is destined for failure, but can they both see past the obstacles to a shared victory? Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play, ‘Pygmalion’, My Fair Lady features classic songs including Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me To The Church On Time and The Rain In Spain, The charm, sophistication and humour of the script, coupled with the soaring music and timeless lyrics ensure that My Fair Lady remains as enchanting a musical today as it was over 50 years ago.
