Kiss Me, Kate Monday 17 - Saturday 22 May 2004 at the Oxford Playhouse
Kiss Me, Kate is probably Cole Porter's best-loved musical. A lusty, literate and delightful backstage fable, it boasts a whole host of hit songs, including 'Too Darn Hot', 'Another Op'nin, Another Show', 'So in Love', 'Wunderbar', 'Brush Up Your Shakespeare', 'Why Can't You Behave' and 'Always True to You (in My Fashion)'.
The show follows events as egotistical actor-producer Fred Graham is reunited with his former wife Lilli Vanessi to star in a musical production of "The Taming of the Shrew". The uneven course of their reunion off stage is paralleled by the Shakespearian burlesque on stage and complicated by a second backstage love story and a pair of boot-faced gangsters extolling the virtues of studying "Hamlet".
Oxford Operatic Society's dazzling cast brings you a witty, sophisticated smash hit with Cole Porter's wisecracking, nostalgic and sensual lyrics and remarkable melodic score... a showbiz masterpiece.
